▣ Mechanical Equipment Specifications
- Describes the technical requirements for purchasing or designing machinery
- A document that provides design standards for all types of equipment classified by Account Code
- There are differences across fields such as petrochemicals, general chemicals, utilities, and industrial machinery
- Serves as a measure of the company's mechanical engineering capabilities
- Managed by classification according to specialty (Stationary, Rotating, Packaged Item)
- Updated specifications are edited or modified to fit individual project conditions, approved by the client, and used accordingly
- Specific mechanical system specifications include:
- Stationary Equipment Specifications
- Rotating Machinery Specifications
- Special Packaged Equipment Specifications
- Field Fabrication Tank Design and Construction Specifications
- Noise & Vibration Specifications
- Painting Specifications
▣ Standard Drawings
- To design mechanical equipment, strength calculations and designs are carried out across all fields. To simplify this process and enhance the reliability of design results, standardized drawings are used based on verified procedures
- Applied after incorporating Project Special Requirements and obtaining the client's approval at the project's inception
▣ Engineering Drawing
- Stationary Items rely less on the vendor technically compared to other items and can technically lead the vendor
- Refers to the drawing that incorporates all technical requirements based on technological superiority and advancement
- All subsequent design activities are conducted based on this drawing
- Aims to consolidate all design information into one place, promoting Single Point Coordination, which significantly reduces the possibility of miscommunication among related disciplines
▣ Detail Drawings
- Unlike other machinery, Field Fabrication Tanks are fabricated and constructed on-site
- Detailed drawings for fabrication and installation are created since all types of detailed design drawings and strength calculations need to be provided on-site along with the materials
▣ Various Lists
- Various lists are created based on self-generated deliverables or Vendor Information during the mechanical design work
- Used as design base information for other teams, construction data, and commissioning base data
Lists include:
- Bill of Materials – Fields Fabrication Tanks
- Bill of Materials – Painting
- Bill of Materials – Insulations
- Motor List
- Lubricant List
- Utility Consumption List
- Spare Part List
- Recommended Vendor List
▣ Purchase Requisitions
- Material Requisition (MR) or Request For Quotation (RFQ)
- Technical Bid Evaluation (TBE)
- Purchasing Specification (PS)
▣ Input Data for Plant Mechanical Design
- To produce engineering deliverables, various design input data must be provided timely from relevant departments throughout the entire project cycle and reflected accordingly
Key Input Data
Major Input DataProjectContract and Project Specification
Process | P&ID, Process Data Sheets
Civil | Site Grading Plan
Architecture | Building Plan and Elevation
Piping | Equipment Location Plan and Piping Material Specification |
Additional Input Data | Major Input Data | Instrumentation | - Instrument Requirements for Packaged Equipment | | | | Approved Vendor List for Instrument | | | Electrical | - Hazardous Area Classification | | | | - Electrical Requirements for Packaged Equipment | | | | Motor Data Sheets/Specification |
▣ Principles for Effectively Performing Mechanical Design Work
- Mechanical design work for projects executed as a Matrix organization is performed under the management of the team leader
- Task Force projects are conducted by a lead engineer dispatched to the project, with authority delegated by the team leader
- The lead engineer allocates the manpower of the Stationary, Rotating, and Package Groups within the mechanical design team organization
- Operates specialized groups such as Noise & Vibration, Stress Analysis, and Welding Specialist Group as common technical expertise
- Depending on the project's nature, a separate Supervisor Group for Quality Assurance may be appointed to perform Inspection and Testing
